SEARCHING FOR A BIRTH
PARENT
Usually the only information known at the
beginning of a Search for a Birth Parent is the information about
the Adoptee's place of birth and date of birth. In most cases, the
Birthmother and Birthfather's names have been kept from the
adopting parents, and are sealed by the Court. An adoptee or
adopting parent has NO RIGHTS to get the Adoptee's identifying
information. The Adoption Search Bureau believes that you have
EVERY RIGHT to know your Birth Parent... WE CAN HELP!
Over
65% of our adoption search cases are solved without having to go beyond
the investigative procedures we perform for a
normal adoption search. However, if the Adoption Search Bureau is
unable to get the Birth Parent's Name through the normal adoption
search, then we have to implement additional procedures to obtain
the name we need to successfully complete the search.

Searching for a Birthmother
Searching for a
Birthmother is by far the hardest of the Adoption Searches. Even
if you have your birthmother's name, you must determine if it is
the maiden name or married name. In addition, we have to locate
and research records that are as old as you are.
For example: if you are 38 years old, and we find that your Birth
Mother was named "Mary Johnson" at the time of your birth, then we
first have to investigate whether this was a married name of
maiden name. Then we follow that name until it changes again,
usually through marriage. WE ONCE LOCATED A BIRTH MOTHER WHO HAD
MARRIED, AND CHANGED HER NAME, 12 TIMES!
So, what do we do? ...
To begin our search, we have to:
1. get her name at the time of your birth;
2. get her exact date of birth;
3. find what State she was born in;
4. get her mother and father's name;
5. get her Social Security Number.
Tough job, but we have done
it successfully thousands of times!
